Reducing household bills, cut mobile phone bills, lower fuel bills

Saving money on the home bills and utility supplies

Ouch, the bills just get bigger and bigger.

Turn down your thermostat dial and put a jumper on. Really it does not do your skin or hair any good to have the heating on high.

Install a water meter, most of us don't really use that much water. Try to take showers and go to the loo before you come home from work (ok so that one is a bit naughty)

Swap utility providers to someone that does a deal.. some like the Utility Warehouse have discount clubs for taking on more services, and they already are competative as they don't have the same kind of staffing overheads being run by independant distributors.

Shop around for your mobile phone plan, you can tell other providers what you have, and they will try to beat your current provider. Then you can go back to your current mobile phone provider with your deal and see if they can match or better it!

Keeping warm at at a reduced cost

Keep your curtains closed to trap the heat - but if it gets sunny, open them to let the sun heat up the glass.

Put on a pair of socks with your slippers!

Wear a cardigan or jumper around the house - makes for feeling cosy as well as keeping you warmer.

Sit in the kitchen whilst cooking, and enjoy the "free heat" off your cooking.

Tips to reduce lighting bills

Make the most of the natural daylight

Cleaning your windows or glass doors regularly will allow the maximum light to enter your room reducing the need for electric lights.

Switch the lights off in rooms not being used

You could cut your lighting costs by quite a chunk, just by making sure you turn lights off in rooms and corridors that are not being used.

Try not to use more light than you need

Don't turn all of your lights on. Don't strain your eyes, but try not to use more light than you need. If you are only working in one part of the room, maybe use a lamp, or overhead light covering that area only.

Maintain existing lighting systems

A maintenance programme can reduce costs by up to 15% as well as improving light output and appearance.

Saving on general electric

Unplug unused items

Some things have power lights, or may be on standby. you should unplug, or switch off the socket for anything you are not using.

Unplug your chargers when you are not charging. Most homes have charger power supplies to charge mobile phones, PDA's, cameras, tools, MP3's and other re-chargable items. Keep them unplugged until you need them.

Use dishwashers and washing machines wisely.

Don't over fill or underfill as you are wasting heated water and soap and electric!
